For 2011 we thought we should alter the club championship format, to encourage more members to enter, and to extend the opportunity to play, by conducting the competition over several weeks and at the organisation of the members themselves. This would replace the old format of squeezing the whole competition into one afternoon. The prize of course is to get your name in gold leaf on the club honour board, forever.

Here is how it will work:

There will be a ladies and a men’s singles competition for members 16 years and above on 1st September. The committee will seed the draw based on position and section of the players if they play competition.

Once the draw is organised, it will be the responsibility of the two players to organise a time within the three week period to play the match. The match shall consist of one 8 game set, with a first to 7 tie breaker at 7-7. The winner moves forward to the next round. We have timed the rounds of the competition to make the semi finals and finals fall on the day of the AGM – October 16th.

We need your entry – which is free to be emailed to our competition manager - Iain Lyon at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it by July 31st. Once we get the number of participants the round completion dates would be:

Round 1 by August 21st
Round 2 by Sept 15
Quarter finals by October 9
Semi finals, and Finals on October 16th.

The semi final and final will be played on the Sunday of the AGM. Results should be sent to Iain at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and will be posted on the website, and marked on the club room wall.

In order to keep the competition moving, if you and your opponent are unable to play the match in time, one of the pair will need to forfeit to let the other through to the next round, or if not possible, then both players will fall out of the competition.
